Welcome to Cobden

"The Dairy Capital of the World"

Cobden is located 208 kilometres southwest of Melbourne, and is central to the countryside’s rich farming land and well-known attractions.

The town is surrounded by the rolling hills and volcanic lakes that commence just north of the coast, located just 30 minutes north of the Great Ocean Road and 2.5 hours from Melbourne via the Princes Highway, Cobden is an ideal base for a Great Ocean Road adventure.

Cobden is the home of Western Star Butter an iconic Australian brand that has been made with the same fresh local ingredients for over 93 years.

Cobden’s significant “making history” can also be enjoyed at the wonderful Pioneer Park whose opening times co-incide with it’s neighbours the iconic Cobden Miniature Railway and Cobden Mini Golf Course on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

Cobden – Part of the Volcanic Lakes & Plains tourism region

Experience Cobden’s real country hospitality just a stone’s throw from the coastal attractions.

The 12 Apostles Gourmet Trail extends north of the coast from Princetown and Port Campbell towards Cobden. Why not book a weekend in Cobden and take in some gourmet stops on route to the 12 Apostles? Still hungry after some coastal walks then call into Timboon on the way back from London Bridge before returning to the comforts of your Cobden Accommodation.

If foraging for tasty treats isn’t your thing we suggest you should ask a local for some tips and try and catch your own. Cobden is central to some high quality stocked fishing lakes including Lake Elingamite, Lake Bullen Merri, Lake Purrumbete and even Cobden Lake right in the heart of town. Now one has to think that local fishing must be good with a local angling club that has been in existence for 91 years!

Species targeted by local and visiting anglers include trout and chinook salmon which are excellent table fish. Fishing by boat and bank is possible and trophy fish are regularly caught.

The Camperdown – Cobden – Timboon Rail Trail snakes its way through our golf course on it’s 34 km journey from Camperdown to Timboon. Make sure you pack your bikes and golf clubs or hire them when you are here. You could start your trail adventure in Cobden and cycle south along the old rail sleepers and trestle bridges towards Timboon or north for spectacular views of Lake Bullen Merri on the way.
